At Benaroya Research Institute we developed a virtual reality application to accelerate the interpretation of cellular architecture, as it applies to our autoimmune disease research. The applicatoin uses ImageJ to process confocal microscope image stacks into NIfTI format files. Those NIfTI files can be read by the ConfocalVR™ application that you can download for free from www.confocalvr.com, along with some sample images. This application was recently written up in GeekWire (https://www.geekwire.com/2017/virtual-reality-helping-scientists-make-new-discoveries-health/).
The system was designed for desktop 6 DOF VR systems like HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Microsoft Mixed Reality. It will not run on cell phone based VR systems like Cardboard or GearVR.
Please download, try it out, and send feedback. Thanks.
